Our website is updated on a daily basis. We're regularly working on new leads as well as deep diving information we already have, so information may change as more truths are uncovered. We've only scratched the surface of this case, there's still so much more to discover.

Excerpts from Gypsy Rose Blanchard's 2024, 'memoir', 'My Time To Stand', are  interspersed throughout the website, to illustrate and reinforce that a false narrative continues to be promoted.

"I wonder if people feel that Gypsy is telling them the truth now" (Erin Lee Carr, 2017)

The following written reconstruction of the police pre-interviews and interviews is not a verbatim transcript of the interviews. It is has been summarised to reflect recollections and alleged truths pertaining to the case. It is not written in the order as covered in the interviews, rather it is presented as a means to juxtapose Gypsy and Nick’s responses to subjects and themes. At times full use of complete statements have been shortened to enhance the flow and is not intended to misrepresent or deceive.
Both of these interviews are available to view online and it is highly recommended that you view them as the visual content allows observation of non-verbal cues and the authenticity of interactions.

Nicholas Godejohn ('Nick') and Gypsy Rose Blanchard ('Gypsy') were arrested in Nick's home in Big Bend, Wisconsin on 15th June 2015 and were taken to be interviewed at Waukesha County Sheriff's department. They are held pre-interview for most of the day into the late evening, and, in Nick's case, into the early morning hours of the following day, at which time their interviews commence.

Gypsy, dressed in jeans, a T-shirt and socks is held in an interview room furnished with a sofa, a basic pillow, an armchair, a side table with a lamp, and a chair.
At some point prior to her interview, Gypsy is taken to the hospital for a health check, where she is prescribed Xanax. On her return she is given a blanket and spends intermittent times laying out on the couch napping or sleeping.
The door to the interview room is open most of the time and a sheriff sits outside the room about 20 feet away from her; they have clear sight of each other. Gypsy is not handcuffed or restrained in any way or at any point.
Gypsy eats all the food she is given.
She is very polite at all times and is treated well.
Gypsy doesn't show any signs of upset, distress or concern about her situation and appears comfortable in her surroundings.
Gypsy shows minimal concern for Nick, if any.
She comes across as of average intelligence, though very child-like.

Nick is dressed in shorts and a t-shirt and is barefoot.  He admits to wetting himself when confronted by the police earlier at his house.
Nick is nursing some minor wounds including what he describes as irritation burns from where he said he was, “roughed up” and thrown to the ground by the police during his arrest. He has a knife wound injury to his finger.
He was held in custody in a small interrogation room for 14 hours prior to being interviewed.
He was handcuffed for 12 hours and 53 minutes before being interviewed.
There is a table and 2 chairs in the room. It is a very formal setting.
Nick is eventually offered and provided with a blanket; he says he has been cold since arriving in the room, adding, “That would be nice of you”.
Nick was not offered a blanket until he had been sat in the interview room for 9 hours.
The door to the room is kept closed at all times. A police man is stationed outside the interview room about 20 feet away from Nick for most of time. There is a glass panel in the door.
Nick enters the room handcuffed behind his back which is soon changed to being front handcuffed.
Nick eats all the food he is given.
Nick is sometimes provided with magazines to read.
Nick is polite at all times and is treated with a moderate level of kindness.
Nick gets anxious and upset at times.
Nick sometimes speaks to himself when left alone in the room, mainly about Gypsy and their situation.
Nick's main point of focus appears to be Gypsy.
Although showing as reasonably intelligent, it would not be difficult for a lay person to recognise that Nick has special needs of some kind.
Nick has Level 2 Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger's Syndrome.
Nick was never offered the presence of an appropriate adult which, given his developmental disabilities, was his legal right.

Researchers at the Autism Research Centre, University Of Cambridge discovered that over a third (35%) of autistic defendants were not given an ‘appropriate adult’ during police investigations, even though their diagnosis was known to police, and despite all autistic people being entitled under the law to have an appropriate adult present when being interviewed by the police. Nick was one of those 35%.
Early on Gypsy asks the sheriff, “Has there been any news about the man I came here with?” The sheriff responds that he doesn't know anything about that and Gypsy doesn't press him any further. Gypsy tells the sheriff that Dee Dee kicked her out of the house and her boyfriend came and got her and took her to his house. She says that whilst at the hospital, where she says she was taken to get meds for her "seizure disorder", people looked at her weirdly. She jokes, “I was, like, I didn’t do anything ... I didn’t kill anybody, I don’t do drugs, I don’t smoke, I don’t drink …I’m a good girl”.

Gypsy converses with the sheriff on and off throughout her pre-interview wait. They engage in an almost an hour long, uninterrupted, light-hearted conversation, with Gypsy smiling, laughing and chatting throughout with confidence, about a range of subjects including, visiting Universal studios with Dee Dee, going to Disney World Florida with Dee Dee and a trip she took to Cape Cod with Dee Dee. Gypsy appears happy, upbeat and alert. She mentions to the detective, “I only know 3 numbers off hand. The only ones I know are my mum’s number, Nick’s number, that just got arrested, and my friend Dan’s number, but we’re not on good speaking terms”. She does not appear sad, unhappy or worried at any point, and shows no apparent concerns for her situation. She refers to Nick 3 times, once by name, "Nick's number", and twice as, “The man I came here with” and as the 'boyfriend' who came and, “Got her”.

Nick enquires after, and talks about, Gypsy consistently. He does this when a sheriff enters the room to speak to him, and also by motioning to a sheriff standing outside the interview room, through the glass panel in the door, that he wants to speak to him. Nick is especially anxious when he is told Gypsy has been taken to the hospital for a check up, and cries when discussing this with a sheriff; he motions through the glass several times after this for updates on Gypsy's hospital situation, informing the sheriff at one point he was, “Worried sick about her”. Nick breaks down and cries with relief when he learns Gypsy is back from the hospital; Nick is told Gypsy is smiling and doing well. He is told Gypsy had eaten and was sleeping. Nick asks the policeman if Gypsy has mentioned him, and requests him to check on her to make sure she woke up okay. He asks numerous times for an opportunity to hold her.

Nick claims he doesn't know why he is being held, or what the police want from him, or why he is handcuffed. Nick enquires many times if Gypsy has asked after him. He says he is wondering if Gypsy has said anything about him because he has been asking about her for so long. He asks the policeman if someone could talk to Gypsy in case she is worried about him. He also says he is worried that Gypsy won't be worried about him. He apologises for the many times he repeatedly asks about Gypsy. When a policeman finally tells Nick that he will talk to Gypsy, Nick responds, “ Thank you so much”, before completely breaking down and sobbing. He is very appreciative of this gesture, telling the policeman, “That means a lot”. Nick tells a policeman that Gypsy is the main thing he is worried about. Nick's concerns for Gypsy appear genuine at all times.

When Nick is advised that Gypsy’s interview is finishing up and someone will be in to speak to him shortly, he asks if they will make a decision on if he can hold Gypsy after they have spoken to him. He says is he missing her which he describes as, "Unbearable".

Nick is interviewed by Detective Angela Maholy shortly after the start of 16th June, 2015 at the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office.
Gypsy is interviewed by Detective Stan Hancock on the 15th June, 2015 at 10.40pm at the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office.

Nick makes multiple references to his tiredness during the interview; “I’m all loopy from being kept waiting for so long”, “I’m so out of it, I’m so out of it. I’m so worried about Gypsy though”, "Oh my gosh, I'm so sleepy" and, “No. I’m getting confused because I’m so tired”.
We do not know if Nick was able to access a change of clothing following 'wetting himself' during his arrest.

Nick appears at ease and comfortable speaking to Detective Maholy. It feels very much like a standard police interview. He presents overall as forthcoming and open. Detective Maholy appears to take into account Nick’s special needs, at times presenting as though she were speaking to a juvenile rather than to a 26 year old adult, but doesn't ask him if he would like an appropriate adult to sit with him during his interview.

Gypsy appears at ease and comfortable speaking to Detective Hancock. For the majority of the interview, Detective Hancock presents as a concerned father-like figure. He uses hand gestures as a way to comfort Gypsy, i.e, patting her shoulder, legs, arms. Gypsy presents overall as a manipulative, compulsive liar driven by a need for self preservation.

Within two minutes of Nick’s interview commencing, Nick lets Detective Maholy know that he’s been, “So worried sick about Gypsy”. When Nick is asked if he loves Gypsy, he responds emphatically, “Oh do I ever. I was bawling my eyes out waiting for this moment where I can talk to you because I was so worried about her”.

THE INTERVIEWS -
Gypsy shows next to no genuine concern or love for Nick throughout the interview.

Gypsy is right handed. She is wearing contact lenses.
Nick is left handed.

Detective Maholy informs Nick very early into the interview that they have already spoken to Gypsy.
Detective Hancock informs Gypsy towards the end of the interview that they have already spoken to Nick.

Detective Maholy removes Nick’s handcuffs a little over 3 minutes into the interview. He has been handcuffed for well over half a day.

Nick tells Detective Maholy that he met Gypsy on a Christian dating website. He says that they “clicked” and felt that they were “right for each other”. He says they entered into a committed relationship 4 days later.

Gypsy tells Detective Hancock that she met Nick on the dating website, ChristianDatingForFree.Com.

Nick presents a fake version of events (pre planned between him and Gypsy just prior to their arrest) to Maholy just over 12 minutes into the interview. He reports along the lines of - Dee Dee kicked Gypsy out, Gypsy texted him to pick her up, he (Nick) caught a greyhound bus a day later and arrived in Springfield on the 10th June (2015). Nick says he let Gypsy know he had arrived, and 'bumped into' her at the hotel where he was staying when he left his room to get a soda. Nick claims they stayed inside the hotel room for most of the time because his mum was worried about him and feared for his safety. He reports that they ordered food in - Dominoes and Papa John’s - went out and purchased a bus ticket for Gypsy, which he paid for, and then got the bus to his home in Wisconsin on the12th (June, 2015). Nick says his mum collected them from the bus station.

Gypsy tells her fake version of events roughly 16 minutes into the interview claiming, “I don’t really know what happened. I came here because my mother kicked me out of my house. She and I were having relationship problems. I guess she wanted me to stay her little girl forever. She didn’t really like my boyfriend and she was like pretty much, 'If you want to move to Wisconsin with him, finally go'. And I packed my stuff. She basically wanted me out the house then because we kept having arguments. But I’m not a violent person, I never ever hurt her (Dee Dee) and a lot of our arguments stemmed from being with Nick, so I just basically chose to come here (Wisconsin). I gave him money to come here and I said, 'Can you please come pick me up because my mum’s kicking me out the house real soon?', and that’s when he asked his mum could I stay with his mum and him, and his stepdad and little brother”. Gypsy reports she paid for Nick to come to Springfield, and they stayed together at a hotel.

Maholy quickly informs Nick that he is not being truthful with regards to his story. She employs the tactic that Gypsy must love him more than he loves her, because she has told the truth; she has told everything. Maholy informs Nick she doesn’t believe he would let Gypsy get into trouble by him telling lies, that she believes he would do the honourable thing by her and tell the truth. Nick immediately responds, “The truth is I worship her”, and from then on Nick discloses his version of the truth. Maholy doesn't suggest to Nick once throughout the remainder of the interview that he is not being truthful. When Maholy asks Nick if there is anything else he would like to talk about, Nick says, “The reason why at first I was lying was because I thought me and her agreed on a lie story and that’s the reason I went with it, and then I learned that she told everything, so I just let it all out”. When Nick tries to highlight the factual parts of the lie story he gets confused, and Maholy suggests that’s what happens when you tell lies, you get confused. Nick replies, “No. I’m getting confused because I’m so tired”.

Gypsy lies within minutes of the start of her interview telling Hancock that she is 19 years old and claiming that she is incorrectly shown as being 23 on her Medicaid card. She references the 2005 Hurricane Katrina as the reason behind this mistake, stating that her birth certificate, which would confirm she is 19, was destroyed during the hurricane.
Gypsy was in fact born on the 27th July, 1991. Why she chooses to lie about her age during a police interview, or why she would use a catastrophic, natural disaster which claimed an estimated 1,200 lives, as a cover for her lie, is open to debate.

Gypsy is informed early on in the interview that Dee Dee is “Dead”. Dee Dee's death is further referenced by Hancock as ‘passed’ and ‘deceased’. Gypsy immediately registers fake shock and upset on hearing this. She raises her arm towards Hancock, interrupting his speech. motioning for him to stop speaking, “Wait. What? What?”
And the Oscar goes to ....
Gypsy asks Hancock if Dee Dee, who Gypsy describes as having a lot of medical issues, including bipolar disorder, could have had a heart attack or committed suicide.

Hancock repeatedly asks Gypsy throughout the first 35 minutes of the interview why Dee Dee was killed. Gypsy is presented with opportunity after opportunity to respond to this question honestly, but consistently chooses to lie and plead her innocence, claiming that - she doesn’t know anything, she would never hurt her mum, she loves her mum, her mum is her best friend, her mum is the most important person to her. She reinforces the idea of her honesty by disclosing that she goes to church and takes communion. Gypsy tells Hancock at different times, “I’m completely 100% honest”, “I don’t tell lies”, “I’m not a violent person”. Hancock spends a bulk of the early part of the interview instructing Gypsy on the concept of honesty as well as the consequences of dishonesty. At one point Gypsy raises Dee Dee’s guardianship of her, but this topic is silenced during the interview.

As the interview progresses there is a clear sense that Hancock suspects Nick is the prime suspect in the case. Gypsy seems to pick up and latch onto this, and once she does, she implicates Nick in Dee Dee’s murder throughout the remainder of the interview, pointing to Nick as being solely responsible for her Dee Dee's death.
Although Gypsy does have some positive things to say about Nick - he’s “Very sweet and kind”, he “Loves me”, he’s not “Capable of hurting her (Dee Dee)” - overall she uses Nick’s love for her as a means to reinforce his guilt alongside her innocence, whereas Nick presents his love for Gypsy as his motive for killing Dee Dee, and accepts his responsibility in Dee Dee's death.

Gypsy tells Hancock that Nick and Dee Dee didn’t get along. She alludes to Dee Dee’s sense of Nick as being, 'dangerous, a murderer, a killer, a Jeffrey Dahmer type of person, a boogie man who lurks inside closets'. She confirms that Nick is strong, and when Hancock asks if she felt threatened to remain silent, she reveals a bruise on her upper, right arm in a non verbal confirmation gesture. Gypsy says Dee Dee had been right about Nick and that she (Gypsy) should have broken up with him.
Gypsy also tells Hancock about being threatened by a stranger at Walmart. This brings into question Gypsy’s years down the line revelation that she once shot Dee Dee 11 times with a BB gun, with the Walmart story used by Dee Dee as a cover story for the injuries she sustained when Gypsy allegedly shot her.

Maholy asks Nick, “Did Gypsy know that you were going to kill her mother?”. Nick immediately responds, “Honestly? She asked me to”. When he is pressed as to the why, Nick says, “Because she thought it was her only way to be with me”.

Gypsy tells Hancock, “I love him (Nick) so much. Can I go home now? He (Nick) killed my mum”. Gypsy nods in the affirmative when asked by Hancock if she tried to stop Nick from hurting Dee Dee. Gypsy uses the same gesture when Hancock asks her if she tried to take the knife from Nick. At just over 37 minutes into the interview, Gypsy apologises to Hancock for having been dishonest with him, “I’m sorry that I lied to you from the beginning, I’m telling the truth now”. She then continues to lie.

When Maholy asks Nick how Gypsy asked him to kill Dee Dee, he responds, “It was more than once, I mean you had a Facebook, we talk about it on there. We were even talking about it on texts”. Nick reveals, “She asked me more than once because what happened was, at first she wanted, she wanted to do it herself, but she was too ‘skittish’”. When Maholy asks Nick which Facebook accounts he communicated with Gypsy on, he says it wasn’t the ‘GypsyDeeBlanchford’ one. Nick admits, “There’s a lot we got rid of”. He says the ‘Emma Rose’ account was deactivated and there had been a ‘GypsyRose’ account which would be, “Long gone” from Facebook. He says the account ‘NicholasBellaRose’ is still active. Nick reports, “I forgot about all of the accounts. There’s so many, I can’t keep track”. Nick confesses to Maholy, “I didn’t want to actually do it”.
Nick claims that, “There’s no way I would have killed for anyone else”, explaining, “I truly worship her to the point there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for her”. When asked by Maholy if he would never have killed Dee Dee if Gypsy hadn’t asked him, Nick replies, “I know I wouldn’t have done it”. He admits that whilst he may have had the thoughts about killing someone go through his head before, he doesn’t believe he will kill anyone else.

Nick admits to Maholy that he was quite certain he and Gypsy would get caught.

When questioned about Dee Dee’s death, Nick confesses, “I’ll admit it, I did actually (he pauses) stab her. I will admit it”. He tells Maholy, “The reason I did it, because I did it for me and her, that’s the only reason I did it. I would have never did it were it not for me and her”.

Nick opens up to Maholy about what he describes as his multi personality disorder, describing himself as having two personalities, a good side and an evil side. He explains, “I have more than one person inside of me. It’s actually multiple personalities inside of me”. He informs Maholy that he hasn’t been diagnosed with the disorder, but thinks he probably should be. He says, “I used to take medication because I used to hear voices in my head”. Nick tells Maholy, “The good side of me originally refused to do it”, confessing that, “My evil side is what actually did it”. Nick alleges his evil side had never come out prior to the murder. He reveals that Gypsy has an evil side of herself too, “We used to call her Ruby”. He says Gypsy has yet another side of her called Kitty which represents the little girl inside of her, and a third side, Candy. He tells Maholy,  “The person you’re talking to right now is my good, normal self, that’s the reason I feel the guilt I do”. He later reiterates, “It was solely my evil side, solely”.
Once Gypsy stops denying all knowledge of who killed Dee Dee, she responds to Hancock’s repeated question of why, why was Dee Dee killed? Gypsy claims, “I know why he (Nick) did this. They (Nick and Dee Dee) had an argument. I wanted them to get along so bad”. She recalls the story of visiting a movie theatre with Dee Dee and meeting up with Nick there (this was a pre-arranged, secret meeting between Gypsy and Nick). Gypsy remembers, “And I wanted him to make a good impression on her (Dee Dee) so I sent him some formal clothes, like a nice shirt like that (indicating Hancock’s shirt), and nice pants. I guess my mum just saw right through all the false this and everything. And she’s like, 'He’s dangerous'. Gypsy adds, “Unfortunately it hurt my mum’s feelings because I was paying more attention to him than her. Anyway she didn’t like him from then on. I called him to try to talk to him. She talked to him for a little while, ‘You’re not good enough for my daughter, you’re creepy .. and it’s creepy that you’re hitting on my daughter whenever we’re going to a family movie’, and (Nick told her) he doesn’t like his name to be drug through the mud, and he said that it was his way of getting justice or sort of revenge”. She goes on to reveal that Nick told her Dee Dee deserved what happened to her.

Nick also touches on the meeting at the movie theatre remembering this as the occasion when he took Gypsy’s virginity, informing Maholy that they had sex in a boy's public bathroom at the venue. He claims that Gypsy was dressed in a Cinderella costume and he wore clothes Gypsy had purchased and posted to him. He says that Gypsy sent him $400 cash through the mail for his bus tickets to attend the event. Nick’s recollection was that Dee Dee was really nice to him when they met at the theatre, but recalls that the night was ruined for Dee Dee somehow, although he doesn’t know why or what caused it.

Nick alleges that Gypsy acquired the murder weapon, the knife, “She somehow found a way to get one at Walmart”. He says Gypsy knew in advance he was going to stab Dee Dee, and admits the knife was mailed to his house from the hotel after the murder, in an envelope Gypsy brought to the hotel from her house. He says Gypsy addressed the envelope.

When Hancock asks Gypsy what the knife looked like she is unable to give a good description other than, it was “Sharp” and “Long”. When asked if she knew where Nick had got the knife, she replies, “I’m not really sure, Sir”.

Maholy questions Nick as to why he chose the method of stabbing Dee Dee as opposed to other methods such as shooting, poisoning, or beating her. Nick responds, “She (Gypsy) looked up multiple times of how to do it because she wanted to find the quickest way … the way she would be in less pain. She wanted her mum’s death to be quick”. To Nick’s way of thinking, stabbing made sense, “More holes, the faster they go away, and the faster they are at peace”.

Nick said he went by cab to Dee Dee’s house on the morning of June 10th 2015.

Gypsy claims that Nick went to the house, “On the the 9th, the night of the 9th”. When asked by Hancock what day of the week this was, she is unable to recall the day. (Hancock appears to find this a bit odd; Gypsy could remember the exact date but not the day of the week).

Nick tells Maholy when he arrived at Dee Dee’s house he was wearing a black shirt adorned with crazy clowns, black pants, a black spring jacket and white tennis shoes.

Gypsy recalls that Nick was wearing a black hoodie and, “A scary shirt. It was black and it had clowns on it, scary clowns”.

Nick admits to Maholy he arrived at the house knowing he was going to kill Dee Dee, “I made my mind up that it’s the only option at that point”.

Nick claims Gypsy let him into the house when he arrived. He says when she opened the door, he whispered to her, “To get her butt in the bathroom because that’s what she wanted to do”. Nick explains, “She’s the one that thought of that particular part of the plan”. Nick says he wanted to remind Gypsy to do this, “Because I wanted to get this over with and get out of there as soon as possible”. Nick recalls Gypsy handed him two “Almost like a turquoise colour” latex gloves which he started to put on whilst outside the house and when entering it. Nick states, “After that she hands me the knife”.

Gypsy relates Nick’s visit to her house as, “He (Nick) was supposed to come visit me and I thought we were gonna go outside and sit together for a while on the porch. He went inside and he started walking to my mum’s room and he said, ‘You need to go outside, you need to go outside’. She (Dee Dee) was asleep and I got to use the restroom, and at that point he put me in the bathroom and he locked the door”. When Hancock questions how Nick managed to lock the bathroom door (the lock was inside the door), Gypsy stands up and re-enacts Nick leading her by her wrist to the bathroom, claiming, “He put me in the bathroom, he closed the door. First he locked the door in a way it locked itself”. Hancock asks Gypsy why she never unlocked the door. Gypsy responds, “I never thought about it”. She alleges, “I was kind of afraid of him, so I gave him time to cool off I guess”. She says she didn’t know what Nick was going to do after locking her in the bathroom.

Nick tells Maholy that Gypsy went into the bathroom, locking the door behind her, to await, “Three knocks, two scratches” on the door, which Nick claimed would signal to Gypsy, “Everything’s clear”. Nick says they had decided on the signal in advance. Nick alleges it was Gypsy’s decision to hide in the locked bathroom as she was worried that Dee Dee might kill him, as opposed to him killing Dee Dee. Nick tells Maholy Gypsy sent him the money to purchase his return Greyhound bus ticket to Springfield. He says she mailed him the same amount she had mailed him to visit the movie theatre, $400 in cash.
Nick describes how Dee Dee was lying on her stomach on her bed sleeping when he entered her bedroom, barely covered by blankets. He says Dee Dee was wearing a nightgown but no panties, claiming that he knows Dee Dee wasn’t wearing any underwear, “Because that’s the last thing I saw before getting off her body”.

Nick confesses to Maholy he straddled Dee Dee, “I was actually on top of her back”. He says he opted to get on Dee Dee’s back because, “It was a lot harder for her to resist.” However, Nick admits that Dee Dee did attempt to put up a fight, “She was trying to grab on to me, but I was able to get myself freedom of finish”.

Nick says he used one hand to randomly stab Dee Dee in the side of her back. Nick is quite clear that he stabbed Dee Dee four times, recalling, “Four. Four times. The fourth one I think I felt it go into, I think, it might have been her lungs. It was harder to get out”. Maholy presses Nick as to the exact number of times he stabbed Dee Dee, asking him, “You only stabbed her 4 times? Are you sure about that?” Nick replies that he is sure, but also confesses he cut Dee Dee on the back of her neck. He tells Maholy that he didn’t count the cut as one of the 4 stab wounds. Nick confirms that there were 4 deep stab wounds, but acknowledges the possibility, at Maholy's perseverance, that there might have been, “Some little ones (Stab wounds)”. He remembers that he only counted the ones that went in deep and not any other ones, “If there are any other ones”. Nick is unable to recall the locations where he stabbed Dee Dee in her back, due to what he describes as, “A blockage, because of the guilt”. He claims the only reason he can remember the amount of stab wounds is because, “It was him (his evil side) talking to me”. He admits he stabbed Dee Dee for, “Maybe 5 minutes, maybe”. He reports to receiving an accidental knife cut on the inner top of the first finger of his right hand when he was stabbing Dee Dee.

Nick admits Dee Dee screamed during the attack. He tells Maholy, “First she said help. Then she said, Who are you? Then she called out for Gypsy, but Gypsy didn’t do anything”. Nick says Dee Dee yelled for Gypsy 3 times.

Gypsy tells Hancock she heard Dee Dee screaming, recalling a ‘startled’ scream. She says the screaming got louder and louder and she heard Dee Dee cry out, “Gypsy! Gypsy!” She recounts, “I’m so scared that I just covered my ears and I just crawled up in a little corner by the tub, like by the toilet”. Gypsy admits to realising what Nick was doing but claims she was, “Too afraid to go because I was too afraid he’d do the same to me”. Gypsy remembers, “While he was doing it, he said a comment, ‘You won’t keep us apart. You won’t keep us apart, you’ll be dead before that happens'.

Maholy asks Nick if he spoke to Dee Dee whilst he was stabbing her. Nick responds it was, “The different form” of himself, “The evil side”, that spoke to Dee Dee. He remembers telling her, “You’re dead to me”, “Stop resisting me, you know you’re dead” and, “Never get between me and Ruby”. Nick confesses, “There’s so many things and I can’t remember ‘em all.” Nick suggests his good side didn’t say anything to Dee Dee, only his evil side, which he sometimes alludes to in the third person.

Nick denies ever touching Dee Dee inappropriately or trying to have sex with her. He admits at one point prior to killing Dee Dee, he was considering raping her and mentioned this to Gypsy, “But I changed my mind because I felt bad for the whole situation of having to kill her mum in general so I decided just to kill her quickly”. When asked if he ever got on top of Dee Dee again once he got off her, Nick says no.

Gypsy reports to Hancock, “He (Nick) said he would have raped her (Dee Dee) first if he didn’t care about me. He said he wanted to originally rape her too”.

Maholy asks Nick if he stabbed Dee Dee in her vagina or anus, or if he stuck his fingers in her private area or touched it, or if he touched her breasts, anus or vagina. He says that he didn’t. Maholy establishes, “So there’d be no reason for your DNA to be inside her vagina or her anus?” Nick responds with a definite no. Dee Dee's autopsy report confirms what Nick said.

Nick claims in his interview it was the first time he had been inside Gypsy’s house and says, “I couldn’t believe how much of a pigsty it was”.

Nick tells Maholy that following the killing, “He” (his evil side) went to the bathroom and performed the agreed signal on the bathroom door to let Gypsy know it was safe for her to come out. Whilst waiting for Gypsy to emerge, Nick recalls, “Pacing constantly, constantly, constantly” up and down in the hallway. He says he would look into Dee Dee’s bedroom to ensure she was dead whilst waiting for Gypsy.

Nick recalls Gypsy didn’t come out of the bathroom straight away because, “She (Gypsy) wanted to shave her private part and her legs”. He tells Maholy, “I wanted her to, I’ll be honest. I did want her to, but I think she wanted to do it also because she wanted to make sure that she pleased me, made me happy”. Nick claims when Gypsy came out of the bathroom she was naked, wearing a long, brunette wig. He claims they both, “Set to clean up the ground and everything around”. He alludes to Gypsy wanting to remove things like photos of herself, things that would suggest that she lived at the property.

Gypsy tells Hancock when she opened the bathroom door, Nick was standing there with a knife in his hand. Hancock asks Gypsy if she knows what Nick did with the knife. Gypsy responds, “No”. Hancock asks, “Are you positive?” and Gypsy nods indicating that she is. Gypsy addresses Hancock in a voice just above a whisper, “Sir, I loved my mum so much. If I’d have known this was going to happen, I would never have gone with it”.

Gypsy tells Hancock when she left the bathroom Nick forced her to be naked whilst she cleaned. She says he handed her a cleaning product and grabbed her arm before ordering her, ’Clean it up!”

Hancock asks Gypsy how she got ‘marks’ around her neck and she advises him they are “Hickies”. Hancock asks Gypsy how she got a noticeable bruise on her upper arm and she tells him that it’s another hickey. Gypsy then reveals a bruise on her other arm to Hancock, claiming it is a bruise. Hancock accuses her of lying about the hickey/bruise on her upper arm on the basis that he would never give a girl a hickey there, and somewhat demands of her to tell him, pointing at the hickey/bruise on her upper arm, “What is this and how did you get it?” Gypsy responds, “He grabbed my arm. He kept kind of grabbing me, bringing me around the house and he made me clean up the drops of blood”. Gypsy later shows Hancock some bruises on her knees surmising that she may have got some carpet burns from crawling around on them cleaning.

Nick tells Maholy Gypsy first crawled at his request as he found it a, “Turn on”, but suggests she then did it because she found it easier to clean in that position.

Nick informs Maholy initially they both cleaned up. He says that Gypsy then wanted to clean up on her own, as she wanted it done “Faster” and didn’t want him leaving additional fingerprints. He states Gypsy cleaned up his blood from where he had accidentally stabbed himself, as well as in places where she thought his fingerprints would be. He says she used a liquid, disinfectant wipes and paper towels.

Gypsy reports that Nick made her clean each drop of blood leading from Dee Dee’s bedroom to the kitchen. She says he, “Commanded me to clean him up” which she did using baby wet wipes. She recalls putting a band aid on Nick’s cut finger. In a lowered, whispered, voice, she tells Hancock, “You don’t know how he is. You don’t know how bad he is”. Gypsy describes using a maroon bottle of ‘Bissell pet odour’ to clean; she advises Hancock the bottle can be found in the kitchen by the back door. Gypsy acknowledges, “I know that helping him clean up was wrong, but he said I had to, and he grabbed me by my throat and he said I had to”.

Nick tells Maholy after cleaning up, “She (Gypsy) wanted to have sex with me, so I did”. He claims they had consensual sex in her bedroom on her bed. He remembers making room on the bed by removing some stuffed toys. Nick alleges they had vaginal, anal and oral sex. He says he did not ejaculate but believes that Gypsy had an orgasm. He tells Maholy he didn’t, “Hardly feel any pleasure”. Bodily fluids were found on Gypsy's bed post murder. If it wasn't Nick's semen, whose was it?

Nick references he and Gypsy ‘Experimenting sexually’, and engaging in “Really, really rough” sex (“Thrusting” into her). He admits things could reach just below the point of violence which may hurt. He says Gypsy adjusted to this kind of sex and enjoyed it. Nick explains Gypsy wanted him to, “Mark my territory” which may have resulted in some bruising on her body. He claims Gypsy told him biting was a turn on for her. Nick recalls biting her twice. He remembers one bite as being on Gypsy’s upper, right arm. He also admits to trying to give her ‘hickeys’ (love bites) on her body. He tells Maholy Gypsy knew he would never hit her or lay his hands on her.

Gypsy describes their sexual encounter at her house as, “I was in shock and he took me to my bedroom and he made me take all my toys off the bed and he raped me”. Gypsy, whispering, informs Hancock that the rape took place, “After he killed my mother”. She says the rape made her feel, “Horrible because it hurt”. Whilst Gypsy agrees that sex with Nick at his parents house in Wisconsin was consensual, she says that Nick forced himself on her in Missouri. Gypsy recognises, in light of all that has happened, “I would never have had a relationship with him. We’ve been in a relationship for 2 years and 7 months and in that time his exes have told me that he’s very controlling and he’s into that thing, BDSM, the fetish thing, and I agree to it, I guess. I guess I saw nothing wrong with him being a little controlling. I mean, that’s fine”.

Nick tells Maholy after he and Gypsy had sex, Gypsy packed her clothes in a pink suitcase and a black backpack. He reports she also packed some movies, including, Game Of Thrones and True Blood.

Gypsy recalls that after Nick had raped her, “He (Nick) made me grab my bag and my backpack stuff, stuff like soap and things”. She tells Hancock, “He (Nick) picked out clothes for me”.

Maholy asks Nick if he can remember seeing a Barney doll at the house. At first he says that he did, and recalled seeing it in Gypsy’s room, but then corrects himself and says he hadn’t seen a Barney doll but mentions Gypsy watching it. (Nick is possibly referring to the Barney TV show; he doesn’t say when Gypsy watched it or if she watched it when they were in the house together). Dee Dee's body had been found with a Barney doll by her head.

Gypsy alleges she never saw Dee Dee’s body after her death. Nick confirms this, saying he would not allow it as he didn’t want her to be, “Traumatised”. Nick claims, “She (Gypsy) refused. No matter what, she refused”.

Nick tells Maholy that Gypsy had told him where to find the money he took from Dee Dee’s bedroom. He reveals it was in a pouch in a single-drawer dresser, and he had retrieved it after the murder. Nick thinks there was a safe in Dee Dee’s bedroom and indicates Gypsy had taken money out of the safe for some things, but it’s not established if Gypsy did that on that day of the murder, directly after the murder or on a different day altogether.

Gypsy remembers Nick used his cellphone to call for a taxi to collect them from the house and take them to the hotel. She tells Hancock that she sneaked into the Days Inn hotel room with Nick, “And we stayed there until we could get a bus, the Greyhound bus, that he was gonna take back to Wisconsin. It was too full for me”.

Nick recalls he and Gypsy stayed in room 227 on their first day at the hotel, and in room 226 on the following day. Once at the hotel, Nick describes to Maholy they relaxed, cuddled and chatted. He remembers they spoke about having a family and a future together. Nick says they had sex, but he did not ejaculate.

Nick tells Maholy that at about 8 am he and Gypsy visited a waffle house next to the hotel to eat. He remembers Gypsy reminding him that she was lactose intolerant. Nick recalls that he ate a steak and cheese omelette, raisin toast and hash browns.

Gypsy informs Hancock, “We went to a waffle house and we tried to eat, but I forgot that I was lactose intolerant and I started to drink a chocolate milk but then I got sick”. She says, “We went back to the hotel to lay down because I wasn’t feeling good. I felt dizzy and my stomach felt bad”. Gypsy estimates they slept for about 5 hours.

Both Nick and Gypsy recall visiting a local Walmart store on two consecutive days, taking a return cab on each occasion, with both reporting that Gypsy waited outside the store on both visits. Nick informs Maholy Gypsy waited outside because she was “Afraid” of being seen by friends. Gypsy claims she waited outside because of the luggage. Nick remembers buying 2 litres of a drink, condoms and a lip balm; Gypsy remembers they bought something to drink and condoms.

Nick advises Maholy of a return cab visit to the post office.

When Gypsy is asked by Hancock, approximately mid interview, “Anything else you need to tell me? This is your last opportunity”, Gypsy responds, “I didn’t, I didn’t do anything wrong”. Hancock asks Gypsy, “You never agreed? Told him (Nick) that you knew he was gonna kill her?” Gypsy replies, “No, I’d never ..”. Hancock asks Gypsy if she thinks Nick will say something different. Gypsy says that she doesn’t know what Nick will say. Gypsy claims, “He (Nick) had a romantic notion of us doing everything together as a team but I didn’t, but I wanted my mum and him to ..” Gypsy again denies she knew of Nick’s intention to kill Dee Dee.

Gypsy tells Hancock that they left for Nick’s home in Wisconsin on the morning of the 12th (June, 2015) on a 7.30am Greyhound bus. She says they had been scheduled to leave the day before (11th June, 2015) but a ticket hadn’t been available for her to ride with Nick on his 6.13pm return ticket, so he had changed his ticket to travel on the later bus with her. Gypsy claims Nick purchased the ticket for her in the name, Bella Godejohn. Gypsy advises Hancock they arrived at Milwaukee at around 2am on the 13th (June, 2015) adding that Nick’s mum picked them up from the bus station. When asked by Hancock why she wore a wig, Gypsy replies, “Because my hair isn’t actually grown out and he didn’t want people to recognise me”. She recalls that the wig was black.

Gypsy informs Hancock all her things are at Nick’s house. Gypsy shows Hancock her feeding tube and says that she has an extra feeding tube there as well as other important things that she needs. She asks Hancock,  “What’s going to happen to me, Sir?”

Nick confesses to Maholy the knife is hidden in his closet in his bedroom, and the money he took is in his backpack. Nick claims his parents will be shocked when they find out what he’s done because, “They think of me as the innocent type, so they probably wouldn’t ever expect it”

Gypsy relates to Hancock an interaction she had with Nick about their relationship, “I even told him that my thoughts of life with him would be a bit different and this is not how I wanted it to be. He has a way about him that he can make you feel comfortable in any situation and I never felt, I never felt that I was in any danger when I got to Wisconsin, because I know that he loves me and he would do anything for me and to be with me. But I know that there’s this, he called it his evil side. He needs to get rid of that side because that’s no way to live. You live a righteous life. You live a good life. He even made me leave behind my cross because he doesn’t, he believes in his own religion I guess”.
When Maholy questions Nick as to who made the Facebook posts he responds, “I didn’t even know the password so she’s (Gypsy) the only one that knows it, only she could post it”. When Maholy asks Nick if he knows what the initial post says, he answers, “I read it, but I don’t know what it said”. Nick has some difficulty recalling if he saw the post before it was posted or if Gypsy told him about it after she posted it, but he feels he didn’t see it which is why he can’t remember what it said. Nick says when questioned about the post, “It was kind of surprising. She showed me it just after she posted it. What the heck?”. Maholy asks Nick why he thinks Gypsy made the posts and he replies, “I think she wanted to speed up the process to get the authorities involved”. Asked why she made the post relating to her being raped and killed, Nick claims, “The first one wasn’t taken seriously so she had to be more aggressive and that’s when she said what she did.”

Gypsy admits to Hancock her role in the posts made on Facebook via her cellphone, but says Nick told her what to write. She recalls of the first post, “It was very bad. I put it on there because I wanted someone to find my mum”. When Hancock asks Gypsy what the first post said, she answers, “What he (Nick) had said to me, he was happy about it . (Whispering) "That bitch is dead". Gypsy confesses she wanted the initial post posted, “I would never call my mum that but, yes Sir, because, I wanted someone to know that something was wrong and I knew that my friends would all worry if that’s not the way me and my mum talk. So I was like, if I put that on there they’ll know something’s wrong”. Gypsy claims Nick was aware of the post, “He knew about it, and I asked him if I could have permission. Please, I need them to find my mum so she could have a proper burial, and I knew it would get people’s attention because we don’t have our cars and like the first people were like, 'Oh they must be watching a movie'. And like, no, no, no this is serious. Please someone help. Please”.

Hancock addresses the second post, which Gypsy is able to quote verbatim. She says that she was made to post that by Nick as well as a third post which read, "The girl is dead too". Gypsy alleges Nick thought it would stop people looking for her.

Maholy asks Nick if he now has his story straight and Nick responds, “I only hope I have, because I’ve told only nothing but the truth”.

Maholy asks Nick if he could go back and change something, what would he change. He replies, “This is something me and Gypsy have spoken about at least a 100 times since we have been able to live together these days that she’s been able to be with me. I kept on going back, and I kept on asking her because this is the question I kept on asking her before. I was the one who actually asked her before we even did this killing that happened. I was the one actually asked her, are you sure you want me to do this? And then she said, 'Yes'. And after she said yes, that’s the rest of the story you already know. But the question I kept asking her before that, I asked her, 'Are you willing to risk everything to have everything you ever wanted?' And that’s part of the reason why she risked her old life to have one with me”.
Maholy asks Nick, “If you could go back and change any one thing about what has happened, what would you change? Nick answers, “I would rather not kill Dee Dee is the truth because that’s the part, that’s the main thing I regret the most of the entire thing”.

Maholy offers Nick the opportunity to write an apology letter to anyone of his choosing. He responds he would like to do this, but his only option seems to be to do it there and then, and Nick seems to be struggling with the process of clear thoughts. Maholy offers him the opportunity to verbalise an apology and Nick says, “The thing is I do feel bad for Gypsy’s family, I really do feel bad for them, I feel bad for Gypsy. I feel bad for all Gypsy’s friends. There’s so many people that ..".

Nick does show remorse during the interview. He says, “Honestly to this day I still feel guilty about it, I do, I do. I learned so much about her mum after. She (Gypsy) told me more and more about it after, and I actually realised how good of a mum she was”. Maholy asks, “So it makes you feel guilty?” Nick answers, “No, no, no. I feel a lot more guilt than that”. Nick also admits that he and Gypsy, “Cried multiple times together over this, and I’ve told her this will haunt me for the rest of my life because this is the truth, it will”.

Gypsy doesn't express any remorse, mainly because she refuses to accept any culpability. She does show distress at times when talking about Dee Dee and what happened to her.

When Maholy leaves the room to enable Nick’s photographs to be taken, he tells her he is nervous about what is going to happen to him. He also asks Maholy if a decision has been made regarding his earlier pre-interview requests to be able to hold Gypsy.

Late into Gypsy’s interview Hancock asks if she has any questions. Gypsy responds, “One, what is going to happen to me? And, two, am I going to be sent back to Missouri? Can I get my luggage with money and my social security cards, my insurance card and things like this?” Hancock informs Gypsy he can’t answer the first question, and with regards to the second, her property will be retained as part of investigation.
When taking Gypsy’s photographs Hancock asks Gypsy, “Do you have any other bruises anywhere?” Gypsy quickly pulls up the legs of jeans revealing two bruises on her knees. Hancock asks, “How did you get that?” Gypsy answers, “He (Nick) made me shave my legs and kneel on the ground and clean up the blood so I think I got carpet burns”. Hancock leaves the room after taking Gypsy’s photographs. Gypsy takes a bathroom break and then takes a nap on the sofa.

Hancock returns to the interview room and informs Gypsy, Nick has been spoken to, and there’s a lot of information Gypsy has left out. There is a clear shift in Hancock’s earlier demeanour as he fires a succession of accusatory statements at Gypsy.
(Hancock) “You planned this with him. You didn’t get locked in the bathroom. You brought that knife into the picture. You brought the idea into the picture”. Gypsy responds to this loudly, in a voice lower than her high-pitched child-like tone, “I didn’t bring the idea!”
(Hancock) “Yes you did”.
(Gypsy) “No. No!”
(Hancock) ”And he did it for you”.
(Gypsy) “No. No!”
(Hancock) “So the lies, they’re done, I’m not sitting here all night long”.
(Gypsy) “No, I won’t give you, I won’t give you any lies. I did not think of this. I know that he has a evil side and he did want to do it. He wanted to get rid of my mum .. for me”.
(Hancock) “Because you asked him to”.
(Gypsy) “He wanted to”.
(Hancock) “Because you asked him to”.

Hancock informs Gypsy that the knife was mailed, that Nick mailed it. He tells Gypsy, “You hated your mum”. Gypsy responds, “I did not hate my mum. I loved my mum and he needs to tell you honestly. I’ve been having horrible .. and I didn’t want to do it, and he said that he would commit suicide if we didn’t. Did he tell you that? I’d say that it was a bad thought that I was thinking and I don’t think that we should be doing this”. Hancock accuses Gypsy of continuing to tell lies and he stands up as if about to leave the room. Gypsy pleads, “I’m not Sir, I’m not”. Hancock advises Gypsy that she is going to be booked in for murder. Raising her voice and turning to face Hancock, Gypsy responds in a more regular voice, “I did not murder my mum, Sir”. Hancock accuses Gypsy of pulling all the strings and of being behind the murder. Gypsy answers, “I didn’t. I didn’t”. She says, “All I wanted was for him to come and get me”. Gypsy tells Hancock, “Please I’m not able to be in jail. I have a lot of medical needs.” Hancock says her needs will be taken care of and he leaves the room.

Gypsy sits quite still for a moment following Hancock’s departure. Her body language suggest shock. She shouts towards the door, in a more regular voice, “I want a lawyer!” Gypsy walks up to the door and shouts, “Please Sir! Sir!” She raps on the glass pane, “I want a lawyer!” Hancock partly opens the door. Gypsy tells him, “I need a lawyer!” Hancock responds, “Okay, have a seat” and leaves, closing the door.
Gypsy sits back down on the sofa still and quiet before removing contact lenses from her eyes and placing them in her pocket. She pleads in her child-like voice “Why won’t someone help? Help me… I didn’t do this. I didn’t do this… Oh God, Oh God.. Please”.
Gypsy approaches the interview room door and looks out through the glass pane and requests to see Hancock. When the policeman leaves following answering her request, Gypsy gets down on her knees directly behind the door and puts her ear to the gap at the bottom in an attempt to hear what is being said outside. She jumps up quickly when she thinks she hears someone approaching and returns to sit on the sofa. When no one appears in the room, Gypsy returns to the same position at the base of the door again jumping up and returning to the sofa when she hears someone approaching. A sheriff enters the room and asks her, “Everything okay? You're on the floor there”. Gypsy tells him, “I’m so scared”.

Shortly after photographs are taken of Nick, he is patted down, handcuffed and taken away. The last thing he speaks about before leaving the room is Gypsy, “I was hoping I would have gotten to see Gypsy one more time”. Nick is informed that he won’t be able to see Gypsy that night. He continues to discuss his request before being led out of the room.

When Gypsy is handcuffed and taken from the interview room, you can hear her ask outside, “Is Nick still here? Is Nick still here?”
Nick mumbles and speaks to himself a fair bit whenever he is left alone in the interview room. It is difficult at times to decipher exactly what he says. The things he talks about to himself include -
Confessing “The reason I said all this is because it’s better to let it all out”... “I’m screwed, I’m frigging screwed”.
The motive “I did it for her (Gypsy) and only for her. Actually for us. So yeah, for us. I want to tell you it was for us. So it was the only way to be together”.
His sense of guilt and his concern for the consequences “I really just want the best possible outcome to this as possible. I wonder what it is? I want to know what it is … The thing is I already feel guilty, there’s no reason to punish me for something I’m already guilty of. Which makes sense, punishment for something you’re already guilty of”.
If he will kill again “It’s a one time thing, I’ll never kill again. I waited 26 years to kill one person ...That’s the only person I ever had to kill”.
Gypsy “I’m going to miss Gypsy … Does she (Gypsy) even want to see me? Will someone go and check on Gypsy for me please? I have this weird feeling she’s freaking crying … I’d better be able to see Gypsy. I just want to hold her and tell her … It doesn’t look like we’ll be reunited tonight, it really doesn’t. I wish, I really wish that Gypsy could say hi to me, hold on to her. I’m really low”.
His possible recognition that he's been used as some kind of a ‘fall guy' “Apparently she decided to go with it. Screw it … Me, I actually held it together until … The thing is if I tell the truth everybody’s … The thing is that she kind of … you made me take the fall and you say you’re sorry? … I should have realised … let me take the fall.

The most interesting and unexpected thing Nick says when left alone, refers to Dan (Daniel Glidewell).
“I apologise to everyone. Everyone out here. Everyone except for Dan. Dan’s the only one I will not apologise to”.
When people ask why we feel it necessary to go pretty hard in on Dan Glidewell, there's your answer right there.
